Department of Medicine, Geriatric Division, University of Sherbrooke, 3001, 12th Avenue North, Sherbrooke, Quebec, J1H 5N4, Canada;
It is my great pleasure to introduce the launch of Advances in Geriatric Medicine and Research. One could ask the reason for launching a new geriatrics journal in the ocean of already existing ones. We were thinking during the weeks how to answer this question and we came to the conclusion with other fellow colleagues that there is never enough journal for introducing new ideas, new ways of thinking and new platforms for the voices not having been reached with the already existing journals.
Not only there is need to address the problems of elderly because their number is ever increasing while the understanding of many aspects of aging does not increase at the same rate, but because also the message should be always renewed.
We would like in this new journal to create a new positive, optimistic multidisciplinary approach to geriatrics in relation to the clinics and the related research, which will represent the diversity of thinking and approach to geriatrics and convey the possibility to remain pro-active in geriatrics and combat all forms of ageism.
We also would like to innovate by creating forums for discussion of pros and cons without having preformed ideas. We would provide a forum for the breathtaking findings to be published even if they are in a different line of the common thinking.
The world is in constant mutation and so should be medicine and science. This should reflect in the various papers that we would like to receive and publish. We are encouraging authors in the different fields of geriatrics to send their papers and we will be their voice to make progress in the various field of aging for the benefit of the elderly population.
We have succeeded in building an international editorial board consisting of eminent clinicians and researchers across the world. As an open access journal, we could provide fast yet fair peer review that can facilitate the sharing of researchers’ latest findings to the community and assure the full dissemination of the papers.
This is a new adventure and you can be part of it. Make the difference and be confident that your research articles become wildly read, cited and recognised.
